Cowboys player Marshawn Kneeland has died aged 24.

Kneeland was drafted by the Cowboys in the second round of the draft in 2024 and appeared in 18 games for the team, including four starts.

He recorded his initial touchdown in Tuesday's defeat to the Arizona Cardinals when he retrieved a blocked punt.

"He was a cherished team member and member of our organisation," the Dallas Cowboys stated.

"We send our condolences regarding Marshawn are with his girlfriend Catalina and his loved ones."

Kneeland was selected by Dallas with the 56th overall pick of the 2024 draft after his college career for Western Michigan.

His representative, Jonathan Perzley, said his "heart aches" for the loss of the athlete who "poured his heart" into every moment.

"I saw him strive his way from a aspiring young man at Western Michigan with a goal to being a respected professional for the Dallas Cowboys," Perzley commented.

The NFL stated it is "profoundly grieved" by the tragic event.
