Manchester United Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major boost to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be building momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional business:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
