Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot conceded that it's expected for concerns to be asked about his future after another heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in 12 matches, marking the team's worst run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I have got a lot of backing from above,” the coach stated.
“It would be great to turn it around and secure a win obviously but if you are coaching a team and struggling then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to expand on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular exchanges I perceive the belief. However I've not talked to them after this defeat so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Failings and Player Response
The manager highlighted recurring shortcomings from his team in their European loss, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder stated.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a spell such as this with results this poor.”
Jones finished, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as that badge is taken away, we’re always going to compete.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, show everyone once more what this club is about and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”
“But right now, things are bad and it needs to change.”
