Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the group.
