Alina Habba has left her position as New Jersey's top federal prosecutor. This follows a judicial decision that questioned her right to occupy the role.
Attorney General's Statement
The head of the Justice Department, Pam Bondi, accepted the prosecutor's departure on the start of the week. Bondi stated that the court's "flawed" ruling made it "untenable" for Habba to effectively run her office.
"But do not mistake compliance for surrender," she wrote. "The effort will now reach across the nation."

Habba's exit comes a week after a judicial panel found that she had been serving in violation of the law as US attorney. This ruling is could influence many criminal cases in the state.
The court ruled that a temporary posting that bypassed the advice and consent of the Senate violated the federal law governing appointments.

Bondi said that she will stay on at the Department of Justice as a high-level advisor. She will pursue additional appeals of the disqualification, in the hope of achieving a reversal.
On a social media platform, Bondi argued that the court "must not second-guess the President's choice of prosecutors tasked with performing the primary duty of the administration of prosecuting crime."

Bondi commended Habba's record and pointed out that during her run, the state capital of Newark saw a significant drop in crime. It was also reported that the city of Camden had its first summer in 50 years free from homicides.
Background and Previous Role
Habba, 41, originally became part of the former president's legal defense in recent years. She went on to acted for her client in his hush-money trial in New York last year, which resulted in his guilty verdict on dozens of charges of document fraud.
Earlier, assuming the federal prosecutor position, the former president had stated he was selecting her as his White House advisor during his second administration, calling Habba as deeply loyal and a "tireless advocate for justice".
